You work hard.
We know it, you know it, everybody knows it! Which is exactly why you deserve to cut yourself a break and take some time to focus on yourself. This is popularly referred to as self-care, which pretty much means that you’re taking some time to treat yourself, relax, and do whatever it takes to relieve stress. In this article, we’re going to explore one of the many ways you can practice self-care, which is by spending an entire day pampering yourself as if you were at the spa.
Read on to learn how to plan the perfect spa day for yourself.
Relaxation is the key to making the most of your spa day. How are you supposed to enjoy the many wonderful benefits of this rejuvenating day you’ve planned for yourself, if you feel tense and stressed?
One of the best ways to kick back and relax is in your spa. Regardless if you have a hot tub or swim spa, the warm water combined with the powerful jets is just what you need to reduce stress and feel at ease.
Start your at-home spa day by having a soak in the jet-driven water. Maximize your outdoor spa experience by adding some spa aromatherapy beads, turning on your favorite music, or reading a book.
After you exit the warmth and comfort of the spa, it’s time for some pampering.
Take a shower or have a bath to cleanse your skin and clean out your pores. Really give your face, arms and back a good scrub with a washcloth or loofa to remove dead skin, dirt and oil.
Once you’re fresh and clean, towel dry with a clean cotton towel and put on a fresh pair of pajamas or a robe. Apply a facial mask to your face, chest, shoulders, and back. These treatments are great for drawing out dirt and oil that’s far beneath the surface of your skin. After your mask is done, which usually takes about 10-20 minutes, rinse and pat dry. Apply your favorite moisturizers on your face and all over your body.
DIY Foot Soak
If you have dry skin on your feet or uncomfortable calluses, this might be a good opportunity for you to soak your feet. There are many different home remedies and products that can be used to soak your feet and remove dead skin, but we find the “mouthwash foot soak” to be extra effective.
Fill a small basin with one-part mouthwash and two parts water. This is thought to help reduce dry and scaly feet because mouthwash has many active ingredients that have anti-fungal properties. Allow your feet to soak for about 20-40 minutes and then scrub with a pumice stone or foot brush. Rinse and follow-up with an ultra-strength foot cream for wonderful-feeling skin.
Now that you’re feeling clean, fresh and relaxed, it’s time to target your muscles. The physical release of built-up tension and tight muscles might be just what you need to make the most of your spa day.
Start with a little fresh air. Head outside if the weather permits it, or open a window to let a breeze in. The warm sun on your face and cool breeze in your hair should surely do the trick. Practice some deep breathing and engage in light stretching. Alternatively, you can also bring a mat or blanket outside with you and do a little yoga.
A light massage can also help reduce muscle tension. Ask your significant other to relieve some tension in your shoulders, schedule an appointment with a massage therapist, or spend a little extra time in your hot tub or swim spa.
Make Detox Water
Nothing quite says a spa day like some cucumber water! Fill a pitcher with a combination of water, an herbal tea bag, and your favorite fruits and/or vegetables.
Try one of the following detox water recipes for a refreshing drink you can enjoy all day:
- Mint, cucumber & lemon
- Lemon, strawberries & ginger
- Blueberries, raspberries & green tea
- Ginger, pineapple & oranges
Which detox water will you enjoy during your spa day?
